Here are some rules to keep in mind for future brainstorms, be it in school or on the job. Over my past 2 jobs, I have been able to appreciate the brainstorm leadership of the designers and design managers that had been established long before I was brought on to the teams. I never observed any uncomfortable engineers or marketers, in addition to designers, that participated in brainstorms. Everyone was made to feel welcome. It is very important to make it clear that no ideas are to be judged during the meeting.
I feel as students running brainstorm sessions with our design classmates, we are still struggling to maintain control of the room to make the most of the time. As with everything, it takes practice.
